ONE ARTIST SHOW auf der ART KARLSRUHE 2020
This year the Burkhard Eikelmann Gallery once again presents with a ONE ARTIST SHOW the exciting oeuvre of a single contemporary artist: David Dalla Venezia (*1965). The artist lives and works between Trieste and Venice and has been represented at numerous international exhibitions – including several times in Burkhard Eikelmann’s gallery space in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel, Germany. On the occasion of the ART KARLSRUHE artfair, he brings us his latest series of works as well as highlights of his earlier career. The artist will be present on the days of the fair. Visit us in Hall 2, Booth H2/D24.
THE DEEP OF THE HUMAN SOUL
In this new series of works realized in the last years, David Dalla Venezia directs the viewer's gaze to figures and sceneries that tell a story through the re-elaboration of archetypical visions and classical images and symbols - about fears, conflicts, desires and obsessions. As in dreamlike sequences, we stare at the empty eye socket of a dead fish or the pareidolic transparencies and reflections of a glass of water, we look at a woman's body wrapped in white as a water naiad which rises ghostly throughout the deep darkness, or a dryad immersed in the green tangle of roots, leaves and ramifications.
The presentation of his visions and the inventiveness of the painter want to reach the recipient directly, intensively and with his evoking way of painting let the symbolism of the objects and characters gather together with the recipient associations and imagination, leaving it free to find its own interpretation and explanation. The diverse canon of symbols of Dalla Venezia puzzles us and challenge us to look inside ourselves for a personal insight. His painting is literary; an encrypted discourse that plunges into the depths of the human soul. The surface of the painterly material, the canvas and the color are essential to involve the contradictory feelings of life and death, love and hate, beauty and ugliness, all harbouring behind these suggestive representations and visions.
